The Information Security Unit implements and maintains requirements for the Federally Mandated Chief Information Security Officer (ISO) and serves as the state-level point of contact for the collection and dissemination of information on other local, county, state and military matters related to information security issues. Members of the Identification and Information Technology Section play a key role in the provision of technological services to law enforcement agencies throughout the State. Whether developing and implementing state-of-the-art applications, publishing crime statistics electronically, or using mapping to identify areas of high crime, this section allows the Department to remain at the forefront of national efforts to better leverage current technological advances in the fight against crime. The Information Security Unit proactively monitors the CJIS network and is responsible for the design and configuration of the network security. They also conduct regular field audits to ensure compliance with FBI CJIS regulations at the local, state, and regional levels. The State Identification Office (SBI) serves as a central repository for the receipt, review, coding, processing and dissemination of all criminal history information used by criminal justice agencies for criminal justice purposes and non-criminal justice agencies for licensing and employment purposes. The personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces also serve in various major organizations such as the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), the Special Protection Group (SPG), the National Investigation Agency (NIA), the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), State Armed Police Force (Jharkhand Jaguars, Bihar Military Police, UP/MP STF, DRG, IRB, Chattishgarh Armed Police, etc.) on deputation and have links/training at different levels/training/courses with the Indian Army.
