Contact the lawyer hired by the university advisor to represent the university. Conduct research on state and federal laws as well as administrative and judicial decisions; investigate legal matters and make recommendations on matters referred by the University Council. The Associate Counsel will conduct legal research, advise university officials on the legal aspects of policy, deal with general university legal matters as assigned, and interact with members of the advocacy profession, as well as with federal, state and other government officials to the extent necessary to fulfill their duties and responsibilities. Specific areas of activity include: electronic law and Internet-related issues, copyright, distance learning, contractual and transactional work, construction, municipal law and zoning, and other areas as required. Receive and investigate inquiries and complaints from university administrators, including matters related to intellectual property, construction law, contract findings, university policies and other matters. Consult with academic staff on issues related to legal interpretation and decisions related to academic activities, policy and operational issues. Assist in the preparation of contracts, agreements, and other legal documents, as well as guidelines for compliance with state and federal laws as well as academic guidelines and regulations.
