§ 4534 Rear-view mirror. No person shall drive a motor vehicle or combination of motor vehicles on a highway unless the vehicle or combination of vehicles is equipped with at least one rear-view mirror or similar device enabling the driver to have an unobstructed view of the highway at the rear of the vehicle or combination of vehicles. This Section does not apply to special mobile equipment, professional posture equipment or posture equipment not equipped by the original manufacturer. (June 23, 1982, P.L.605, No. 171; December 18, 1992, P.L.1411, No.174, eff. 60 days) I interpret this to mean that you don`t need mirrors at all, as long as you can look out the rear window or take your head out of the side window and look back. If you are on the road, you need a vehicle that does not pose a risk to your safety or that of those around you. This means that the vehicle must be in good condition, that all lights and turn signals are working properly. This also means that your mirrors are all present and properly installed.

Without a rear-view mirror and exterior mirrors, the driver may not perceive his surroundings. This can lead to serious accidents. 347.40 mirrors. 1. No person shall drive a motor vehicle on a highway unless the vehicle is equipped with a rear-view mirror arranged so that the driver reflects a view of the road at a distance of 200 feet from the rear of the vehicle. (2). (3) No person shall drive or operate a bus or coach on a highway unless the bus is equipped with 2 exterior mirrors, one on the right and one on the driver`s left. Each mirror must have at least 50 square inches of unobstructed reflective surface and be firmly supported and adjustable to allow the operator a clear view of the rear right and left of the bus. Some states require the left side mirror to be installed so that the driver`s view of the highway is at least 200 feet (60.96 meters) clear. This driver`s mirror also allows you to have a clear view of other vehicles approaching from the left, rear or blind spot. A rear-view mirror is therefore always crucial, as is a lane change. 55-9-206. Trucks with mirrors. — every lorry using roads, roads, expressways and other public roads which, by design, obstructs the driver`s view to the rear, must be fitted with a rear-view mirror arranged and maintained in such a way that the driver or operator can see the road to the rear and detect the approach of vehicles from the rear of the lorry. Driving is illegal if your car doesn`t have two functional mirrors to make sure one of them is on the driver`s side. After all, it is dangerous to drive without side mirrors and safety equipment.
